[Regnum] The United States is satisfied with the current level of readiness of its nuclear forces both in Europe and around the world. John Kirby, coordinator for strategic communications at the White House National Security Council, announced this at a briefing on June 17.
He emphasized that the United States, as before, feels comfortable with the issue of readiness for strategic deterrence on the European continent and around the world.
Thus, Kirby commented to reporters on Washington's reaction to statements by NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg.
As Regnum reported, the Secretary General of the North Atlantic Alliance in an interview with the British newspaper The Daily Telegraph said that NATO member countries have begun consultations on the need to put nuclear weapons on alert. According to him, transparency on this issue helps “send a direct signal that NATO is a nuclear alliance.” Stoltenberg added that the bloc's goal is supposedly that "there will be no nuclear weapons in the world, but as long as they exist, NATO will remain a nuclear alliance."
The director of the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service, Sergei Naryshkin, called for a calm attitude towards Jens Stoltenberg's statements about NATO discussing bringing nuclear weapons to a state of combat readiness. These words should not be given special meaning, Naryshkin concluded.
