Ethiopian forces fire mortar shells toward Al-Shabaab-held areas |

[ShabelleMedia] Æthiopian troops serving under the AU mission in Somalia fired mortar shells toward areas on the outskirts of Dinsor city in the Bay region, residents said. Six mortar rounds hit al-Shabaab ![]() -controlled villages, causing unspecified casualties on local villagers, who reported hearing heavy blasts in the night as a result of the shelling/ The situation was calm on Monday morning with no statement regarding the attack from Southwest state authorities and the ATMIS command in Mogadishu. For the past few days, al-Shabaab clashed with Æthiopian forces in the vicinity of the town which faces a blockade for over 10 years due to the presence of the AU and Somali troops. Æthiopia has thousands of troops in Somalia serving as part of the African Union ...a union consisting of 53 African states, most run by dictators of one flavor or another. The only all-African state not in the AU is Morocco. Established in 2002, the AU is the successor to the Organisation of African Unity (OAU), which was even less successful... Transition Mission, or ATMIS, and other forces in Somalia that are there based on arrangements with the government in Mogadishu. Last month, al-Shabaab forces of Evil attacked convoys carrying Æthiopian soldiers in Somalia’s southwestern Bakool region. Æthiopian troops have bases in Wajid and Huddur. The ambush targeted two convoys, one traveling from the Somali town of Yeed to Wajid and the second convoy as it traveled from El Barde to the town of Huddur. |
