Human Rights Commission Concerned by Reports of Crime in Sabratha and Surman |

![]() The lads do like to keep busy, O tremendous Effendiness. If they can’t be revolutionaries and kill and rob those they’re revoluting against, why they jest turn round and kill and rob their neighbours! Idle hands are the Devil’s playground, donchaknow, and we can’t have them playgrounding in public — it wouldn’t be decent.” [LibyaReview] On Tuesday, the National Commission for Human Rights in Libya (NCHRL) expressed its deep concern about the escalation of crime, and organized crime reported in the cities of Sabratha and Surman.A sharp increase in theft, looting, and armed robbery has been reported in the two cities. "This is a result of a security vacuum, the proliferation of weapons, and the control of these cities by gangs and outlaws," according to the commission. NCHRL held the Ministry of the Interior of the Government of National Accord (GNA) ...the ineffective compromise government recognized by the UN Security Council in 2015 and by Turkey, to whom they gave huge amounts of Libya’s gold in exchange for weapons, Syrian mercenaries, and Turkish soldiers, though in the end none of it saved their bacon. Back when the GNA refused to hold elections as promised, the general of their Libyan National Army, Libyan-American Khalifa Hafter, threw up his hands and decided to unify the country himself in addition to defeating rebellious jihadi groups. Egypt is Haftar’s most open supporter, seeing him as a bulwark against the Moslem Brotherhood ... responsible for controlling security, prosecuting the perpetrators, and combating crime.Related: Sabratha: 2020-10-11 Aid group says Libyan militia is holding hostage 60 migrants Sabratha: 2020-05-05 Al-Ghazwi Reveals how Turkish Drones Bombed Smugglers’ Fuel Trucks by Mistake Sabratha: 2020-04-26 GNA Refuses Operation IRINI Because It Will Disrupt Arms Supplies From Turkey |
