According to Noman Ali Shah, the political sub-collector of the area, the bomb exploded using a remote-controlled device. Shah said that the target of the attack was tribal leader Malik Mohammad Shareef who was severely injured in the blast.
Two passers-by were killed while seven, including the tribal leader, were maimed. The injured were transported to a Kalaya Headquarter Hospital, from where they were later shifted to KDA Hospital in Kohat.
Three of the maimed were said to be at death's door.
