BERLIN/KOBLENZ: A state court on Monday convicted a German man of Pakistani origin for helping to fund and supply Al Qaeda in the NWFP and sentenced him to eight years in prison. The 47-year-old, identified as Aleem Nasir, was convicted after an eight-month trial. He was arrested in February 2008 and charged with giving $38,000 as well as equipment such as night-vision goggles, binoculars, laser range finders, digital compasses and radios to the group.
The court in Koblenz found him guilty of belonging to a foreign terrorist organisation, distributing propaganda, receiving training at a Taliban camp and helping recruit volunteers for Pakistan. |
