Hamas and Fatah agree ceasefire

![]() Wadeaminnit! They were in a ceasefire!
At least eight members of Mahmoud Abbas's presidential guard were killed following an attack by Hamas fighters near Gaza's Karni crossing. The fighting, coming on top of the resignation of Hani al-Qawasmi, the interior minister, is the first major crisis facing the unity government set up between Mahmoud Abbas's Fatah movement and Hamas. Yeah. Everything up to now's been minor, hardly worth mentioning. One Palestinian man was also killed by Israeli soldiers. Hamas later claimed responsibility for firing five rockets from Gaza into Israel, one of which landed on a house in the town of Sderot. One person was seriously injured in the rocket attack, rescue workers said. It was the first Hamas rocket attack on Israel in three weeks. Hamas members have previously said that they would observe a ceasefire with Israel. And now they're not. Colonel Ali Qayssi, of Fatah, said that dozens of members of a Hamas paramilitary force and the faction's military wing, the Izz al-Din al-Qassam Brigades, fired grenades and anti-tank fire on the military base near Karni, where 200 guards are stationed. When other Fatah members arrived to drive off the attacking force, they were ambushed by other Hamas fighters, he said. Fatah men who survived the ambush said that the Hamas men had killed any Fatah men who they had captured. An unidentified Fatah security man who said he had been wounded in the incident told Palestinian television: "They came and shot the wounded. They left me, believing I was dead." ![]() "Yeah. It wudn't us. It wuz them Zionists." Earlier on Tuesday, a fighter from the Izz al-Din al-Qassam Brigades was shot dead and another Hamas supporter wounded in Gaza City, medics and witnesses said. Ibrahim Mounia was killed in eastern Gaza City overnight when unknown armed men ambushed a minibus carrying men from the brigade, sources said. Betcha that wuz Zionists, too. Another Hamas loyalist was wounded when fighters opened fire near a checkpoint controlled by national security, a service dominated by Fatah loyalists. At least 23 Palestinians have been killed in factional fighting since Sunday and more than 60 wounded, dealing a major blow to the unity government just two months after it was formed. Another blow to the administration was al-Qawasmi's resignation which has left Ismail Haniya, the prime minister, assuming responsibility for the interior ministry until a replacement is found. In a bid to clamp down on the street fighting, Haniya is expected to convene a meeting of commanders on Tuesday to discuss a prospective security deployment.

#10 Dozens of Gaza residents turned out for a rally on Wednesday to demand an end to factional fighting, only to be caught in crossfire that left eight wounded. "Just as we used to protect you from the occupation by acting as human shields, we have come to protect you from yourselves," one protester shouted at gunmen, referring to instances when Palestinian civilians positioned themselves between militants and Israeli forces. Placing themselves between warring factions deployed on opposite ends of a Gaza City street, the protesters were forced to run for their lives when a gun battle erupted, witnesses said. A local hospital said eight people were wounded in the crossfire, one critically. Well...so much for that idea. |

#7 Hamas and Fatah killing each other seemed like a workable arrangement. Please reconsider the truce. Surely, you both can find something to be 'pissed off with' with each other. Rantburgers would be willing to help you find 'shooting' differences over which to disagree. |

#3 They came and shot the wounded Yeah. Put 'em out of their misery. The barbaric joooos would've simply captured them and treated their wounds, in violation of human rights. |

#2 Yeah, Joe, maybe if they can focus their aggeressive tendencies on the Jooos, they wouldn't be killing each other. Everybody's gotta have an outlet, a hobby as it were. |
