[LakePowellWaterData] link goes to the lake water data base where you can see a recent rise in the lake level

this rise is a very welcome thing as the lake level went low enough to set off warnings

the rise was due to monsoon rains and incoming pacific storms

A pacific storm (with some tropical input) is occurring now (am local time 22 Oct) which will add a lot of water to the various lakes, e.g., Navajo, Powell, Mead. Main branch rivers may reach flood stage briefly but likely will not flood dangerously. Tributaries might reach dangerous levels. This could be the beginning of a welcome wet period that will replenish the various watersheds. # id) ?>

1 The problem isn't global warming or climate change as Governor Newsom asserts. We've always had dry years and wet years. The problem is that we've doubled California's population since 1970 without adding any water storage. Then they tell us to stop watering our lawns.

2 I think a bigger problem than urban usage is agriculture usage.

For example, the Yuma area supplies about 90% of the USA's lettuce in winter months. It requires about 2 acre ft of water per acre to grow two crops of lettuce per year (some places grow 3).

3 CA Proposition 1, passed in 2014 was a $7.5 billion bond initiative to improve various aspects of water quality and storage statewide. $2.75 billion was specifically set aside for water storage. The only major resevoir planned is the Sites Resevoir Project south of Sacramento, scheduled to begin constriction in 2027 with completion in 2033 - 19 years after the general obligation bond was passed and issued.

4 I hear people complain about agricultural water use. I try to be gentle when I tell them the farmers were here before they were.

I don't really want to pay for any more reservoirs. My policy these days is to vote no on any bond issue or tax increase that ever makes it to the ballot. The reason is that the politicians have proven again and again that they will steal the money. They want money and they want power and they are none to particular how they go about getting it. If that means importing millions of hobos, illegal aliens and H1B workers, they'll do it.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that California, as big as it is and contrary to what the politicians seem to think, isn't big enough for everybody in the whole wide world to live here.
