SF Mayor Says City Lost Its Way
[NYPost] San Francisco Mayor Daniel Lurie blamed the city’s progressive politics for fueling its homelessness, drug overdose and business exodus crises, admitting in a new interview that the city had “lost its way.”

Lurie, who has made restoring San Francisco’s battered public image a priority since taking office, told CNN’s Dana Bash that his administration is taking a more hard-nosed approach to crime while working to make the city friendlier to businesses.

But Bash pressed the mayor on why San Francisco needed a turnaround in the first place — prompting a blunt admission about the city’s far-left reputation.

1 Addressing crime but leaving all the other progressive policies in place is not possible.

2 For the record, SF is a big proponent of Flock. The mayor and chief of police directly and publicly credit Flock as crucial to cleaning up what had become out-of-control streets. When faced with citizens advocating to completely remove their Flock cameras, the notoriously liberal municipality engaged and convinced its notoriously liberal citizenry - via open, rational, outcomes-based discussion - that it made sense to keep their cameras because they unambiguously reduced crime. To assuage citizens' privacy fears, SF asked Flock to reduce the image retention period from 30 days to 7 days, which we duly obliged as we would any democratically elected body. In the hands of the principled, Flock is a powerful force for good.

3 BART replaced its low entry gates with high gates (leaving 4" on the bottom and going up to 7').

It reduced fare jumping, increased revenue and reduced transit crime == all significantly. Project planned about 6 years ago. Project completed in 2025.

Fascinating, Phating Lumplump5557. Different solutions for different situations.

Sometimes the easy answer is the right one, Lord Garth.
