Fierce fighting broke out on Thursday in the outskirts of Teeydaan in Somalia’s Hiiraan region after Al-Shabaab militants reportedly ambushed a group of Somali government soldiers stationed near the area, according to local sources.
The exchange of gunfire occurred after the militants launched a surprise attack on government forces positioned close to Teeydaan, triggering clashes that lasted for an undisclosed period.
Casualties were reported on both sides, although the exact number of those killed or wounded has not yet been confirmed.
