Pakistan Has Deported 2.4 Million Afghans, Sharif Says
|
 [KhaamaPress] Pak Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said that approximately 2.4 million Afghan migrants colonists have returned to Afghanistan since September 2023, as Pakistain continues one of the region’s largest migrant repatriation and deportation campaigns.
In a message marking World Refugee Day on Saturday, Sharif said the figure includes both Afghans who returned voluntarily and those deported under Pakistain’s migration policies. He reiterated Pakistain’s commitment to refugee protection while calling for greater international responsibility toward displaced populations.
"Safety is a fundamental human right, and protecting those forced to flee conflict, insecurity and crises is a collective responsibility of the international community," Sharif said.
The Pak leader also noted that his country has hosted millions of Afghans since 1979, providing shelter and opportunities despite limited resources. He urged the international community to help ensure that displaced people have access to peace, hope and the possibility of a safe and dignified return home.

The remarks come as Pakistain continues to tighten immigration measures affecting Afghan nationals. Since launching its deportation campaign in 2023, Islamabad has expanded the policy to include additional categories of Afghan residents, including holders of Afghan Citizen Cards and other temporary protection documents.
