Boooooring: Hundreds of anti-government protesters rally at Tel Aviv’s Habima Square, hold rallies in Jerusalem, Haifa

[IsraelTimes] Hundreds of anti-government protesters gather at Tel Aviv’s Habima Square for weekly demonstrations, with tonight’s rally expected to draw several thousand.
Some protesters marched from nearby Rabin Square, holding signs with varying anti-government messages, including anti-war and anti-occupation slogans, campaign messages for opposition parties and calls for the establishment of a State Commission of Inquiry into the failures that allowed the October 7, 2023, Hamas-led attacks.
“The members of the massacre government have their backs against the wall today,” Anti-government protest leader Shikma Bressler says in a speech before the main rally. “They see the polls, and they know what their part is in the great disaster that happened to us and in the great deterioration of the status of the State of Israel.”
Several family members of former hostages and fallen soldiers are expected to speak at the Tel Aviv protest.
Several other demonstrations were also being held at other locations across the country, including Haifa, Jerusalem, Beersheba and Afula.

[IsraelTimes] Speakers at the 500-strong anti-government protest on Tel Aviv’s Habima Square rail against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s failure to call for a statutory state commission of inquiry for failures surrounding the Hamas-led onslaught of October 7, 2023.
“As time passes the questions just pile up,” says Ayala Metzger, whose 80-year-old father-in-law Yoram was snatched to Gaza in the attack and killed in Hamas captivity.
A statutory committee, Israel’s highest investigative authority, comprises independent experts appointed by the chief justice, she notes.
Netanyahu’s proposed committee of inquiry, by contrast, would be selected by politicians.
“The political, populist, fascist committee of inquiry… would comprise three coalition representatives and three opposition representatives,” she says. “If the opposition members happen to refuse to take part in this perverse conduct, the three coalition members will act as the committee and probe the crimes they themselves are responsible for.”
Eran Littman, whose daughter Oriya was killed in the Hamas massacre at the Nova music festival, says the 26-year-old was “murdered because of a war of religion.”
“Hamas’s Muslic fanatics murdered her,” while letters left behind from slain Hamas chief Yahya Sinwar show “the damage that Jewish fanatics did to Muslim holy places triggered the un-ending war,” Littman claims.
Idiocy. The Hamas objection to Israel is that Jews dare to be there at all. Arab fedayeen, the same people who became the PLO and Hamas, were in the 1920s attacking native Jews in the ancient Jewish community of Tiberius as well as kibbutzniks, showing the objection long predated the existence of Jewish self-rule in 1948, never mind conquest of the West Bank, Gaza, and the Temple Mount. And given that the Hamas charter calls for wiping out the Jews of Israel as a first step before killing them all over the world, fussing at the Haredim for the provocation of praying on the Temple Mount seems a bit petty. He expresses derision toward the Haredi effort to pass a quasi-constitutional Basic Law equating the privileges of draft-evading yeshiva students to those of Israelis who perform mandatory military service.
Agreed. But that is the political cost to Bibi because all the center-right and center-left parties shun him — he makes his coalitions where he can. Break the boycott, and the Haredis won’t have a hold on him anymore. Your choice, your consequences. “Don’t you dare tell me learning Torah protects us,” he says. “Anyone who dares say that next to me, I’ll take them six feet under so they can say that to my Oriya.”
He notes ahead of these comments that his daughter’s body was retrieved by four Haredi volunteers with the ZAKA service who are “no less heroic than any commando.” Littman’s tirade is aimed at the government, not the volunteers, whom he has since befriended, he says.
As he speaks, police enter the crowd to break up a shouting match between pro-government provocateur Hadar Muchtar, who is trying to get footage from the protest, and a would-be anti-government influencer who tries to shout her down. Both are escorted aside, and police take their respective versions before letting them go.
