2 Living in Israel since shortly after Independence Day 1948, Besoeker, when the gates of the European DP camps — the same camps that the Nazis had built to be concentration camps, mostly, just with better food, fewer lice, and no work gangs — finally opened to let them out. Before that they could leave, of course, except that nowhere in the world was willing to accept them.
