Having owned an Alibaba purchased 1mW blue laser set that would start paper on fire at a few feet, but did not work out as a rifle laser pointer. I am thinking of the fun just a mere 10KW would bring.

SIDE NOTE:
As we know, Jesus and his disciples were all Jewish.
All practiced Judaism to their last days on earth.
It is his teachings and their written accounts we follow as Christians.

8 I incorrectly read the headline as 100KW Ion Beam, which would be something! Not that a 100KW laser is anything to sneeze at. I wonder what they use as a mount. The beam would not necessarily be a static beam, but might be a 'rasterized' beam. Just speculating.

Had they not, there would be no Christianity, from the Christian perspective.

But it was Jesus’s own words and actions that drove them to it, as described in the Gospels. The Sanhedrin was only a religious power. They were protecting their people and doing their sworn civic duty by handing him over to the secular ruler, the Roman prefect Pontius Pilate, who is the one who tried him for treason under Roman law and ordered him crucified. Jesus’ claim to be the Messiah was not just heretical, it was treason against Roman rule, and would have led to a bloody revolt and bloodier suppression by the Romans had he continued.

Exactly that happened after the first Jewish revolt (67-70 AD), which resulted in the destruction of the Temple in Jerusalem, and the third Jewish revolt (132-136 AD), also called the Bar Kochba Revolt after its leader — who also claimed to be the Messiah, the earthly king of the revived Jewish kingdom and did the usual kingly things: judging, issuing coinage, and leading an army to drive out the Romans. By the time Galilee and Judaea were pacified the second time, the land was practically depopulated: 2/3rds of the Jewish population was dead and almost all the rest sold into slavery or exiled; and beyond the Jewish provinces, Jews throughout the Roman empire were persecuted and forbidden Jewish practices.

So, NN2N1, were you a member of the Jewish elite in Jerusalem then, knowing what the Roman rulers were, and firmly believing that Jesus could not possibly be the Messiah according to Jewish law and prophesy, what would you have done when presented with that scenario? Because it’s clear from the Gospels that while Jesus may have talked about ruling in Heaven, even after he died on the cross his Jewish followers expected him to return momentarily to rule in the earthly Jerusalem.
