[Daily Mail, where America gets its news] Sir Keir Starmer risked provoking Donald Trump again today as he gave the green light for China's new 'mega-embassy' in London despite security fears.
The Government has signed off the plans for the site in the face of furious opposition from many MPs and warnings it will 'amplify' spying.
Critics accused the Prime Minister - who could now confirm he will visit China soon - of lacking the 'backbone' to stand up to Beijing and of 'kowtowing' to the Asian superpower.
Documents released alongside the decision showed MI5 warned that it is 'not realistic to expect to be able wholly to eliminate each and every potential risk'.
The decision was announced shortly after Mr Trump had condemned Sir Keir for 'giving away' the Chagos Islands to Mauritius in an 'act of great stupidity'.
And a few hours later Chancellor Rachel Reeves used an appearance at the World Economic Forum in Davos to say it was in the UK's national interest to do more business with China.

Sitting alongside US secretary of commerce Howard Lutnick she said: 'The trade intensity between the UK and China is lower than between the US and China, lower than Germany and China, lower than France and China.
'We want to help British businesses as well to be able to export to those fast-growing markets.'
