5 Well ... corporate McDonalds began its move from ritzy Oak Brook to the West Loop back in 2018. Anyone with half a brain would have known how this was going to work out. I retired that year, after 15 years in Streeterville.

Muggings in our parking lots were common enough by then that we were posting guards in the elevator lobbies. They didn't help much. Shots had been fired at the Hospital building just before I came to work. And one of the Deans was mugged at 3:00 pm the way to her car.

Boy was I glad to be out of there.

8 McDonalds is still on Carpenter Street in the West Loop and it will be there for awhile.

The 'Hamburger University' is there also, a 6000 sq ft restaurant and cooking research facility and is open to the public and thousands visit it each day.

However, a number of franchises in the city of Chicago have closed in the past year.

9 I worked in Oak Brook (not at McD’s) for a couple years. On occasion we would go to Corporate Burgers for lunch. Far better than your average franchise location.
