[IsraelTimes] A firm that provides information about buying real estate in Israel denies that it canceled an event today in New York due to a planned protest by anti-Zionist activists.
The activist group Pal-Awda on Friday announced a protest against the event. The advertisement was shared widely by anti-Zionist activist groups around the city.
The announcement raised alarms because Pal-Awda held a vitriolic protest outside a New York City synagogue last week. The group did not share a location for the protest.
Other protests at synagogues hosting Israel real estate events in the US have also drawn caustic protests in recent years. The synagogues do not organize the events, but rent out space to the event organizers.
Pal-Awda says in a statement that it “forced the cancellation of zionist land thieving CapitIL Real Estate’s planned illegal land sale in Manhattan.”
“We will continue to expose and, with our community’s support, challenge the zionist entity’s long tentacles,” the statement said.
A spokesperson for CapitIL says the event cancellation was unrelated to the protest, though.
The group canceled the event because it is focusing its resources on holding a larger event in the coming months, the spokesperson says.
The event had already been canceled when the activists announced the protest on Friday, he says.
It’s not clear how the activists found out about the event, which is not listed on CapitIL’s website.
Last night, protesters demonstrated against a CapitIL event at a restaurant in Teaneck, New Jersey.
Also yesterday, protesters gathered at John Jay College in New York City to demonstrate against a talk by IDF veteran Stav Cohen.
Activists shared videos of masked protesters berating police officers at the scene, scuffling with police and shouting “shame” at attendees leaving the event.
