Jubaland Forces Capture Kamsuuma, Advance on Al-Shabaab Stronghold Jamaame

…advancing towards the militant group’s stronghold of Jamaame, residents and local officials said on Wednesday.
Kamsuuma lies about 23 kilometres from Jamaame, close to the Jubba River. Control of the town gives Jubaland government troops a key river crossing and a forward base for operations against Jamaame, which is one of Al-Shabaab’s main hubs for farming and trade in southern Somalia.
Local people reported that militants pulled out of Kamsuuma after hours of gunfire and shelling. Jubbaland officials hailed the capture as a “liberation” and said the operation was aimed at dismantling Al-Shabaab’s supply lines into Jamaame.
