New York City subway loses power amid life-threatening heat dome broiling millions across eastern US
[FoxWeather] Tuesday has been one of the worst days of a dangerous heat wave that is producing life-threatening conditions for those without access to cooling and hydration.

Nearly 160 million people across more than 25 states are under either an Extreme Heat Warning or Heat Advisory, from Florida to New England, and west through the Midwest and Mississippi Valley, even stretching to parts of northeastern Texas.

Tuesday was expected to be the hottest day of the year so far for major Northeast metropolitan areas, including Philadelphia, New York City and Boston.

Boston reached 99 degrees. An Extreme Heat Warning is in effect through Tuesday for Newark, New Jersey, just across from New York.

In fact, Tuesday set the record for third-most 100+ degree days with weeks of summer left to go. It's the most 100-degree days on record before Aug. 1.

Down in eastern GA., we reached a 108 degree Heat Index.

The big box stores were full of people wandering around to avoid the heat and using the store AC to cool down.

It seems a number of good people had purchased the Wally World large packages of 16oz water bottles, froze them the night before, and were handing them out free to Homeless and people stranded in the heat.

#4 Dallas has had the 19th coolest July since 1882 (I think). In other words, relatively cool. We just hit 100 for the first time in 2025 yesterday.

Global cooling is making a comeback!

I think a movie theater would be better for that...unless the movie is too stupid.

#10 Went to a stupid movie recently. Cost a couple dollars. Person I went with and I enjoyed the visual expo, but didn't enjoy the movie until we got out and laughed about plot holes and dialogue, poor acting and off timed jokes. Whatever little interest I had in latest release eye candy was squashed after recently watching a couple episodes of the TV show Combat! and it's competency in all aspects of film.

Chatter here is that Kansas, in general, will have gone into July in the 80s and will leave July in the 80s.

But back to subject; yes they will see, losing power seems to be a feature of communism.

#11 ^Clearly you haven't been to a movie theater lately.

It's much cheaper to wander around a big box store!

#12 That's what I'm saying, movies out right now, for me, are not worth the ticket. Large popcorn and drink $17?

....then again, you put me in a Hobby Lobby for 3 hours I may be walking out with $300 of modeling supplies. Worse if I were in a hardware store and got inspired. I would at least have a tangible good afterwards, I guess.

Yes, AC tourism is a thing, and out here they sometimes even pretend to be shopping.

#13 The heat wave is supposed to break tomorrow, I hear. For Cincinnati that means dropping from low 90sF to high 70s.
