4 Abdulmutallab was subdued by the person seated next to him when he tried to ignite his underwear bomb. This young man was a student at the school I taught in. He never allowed his name to be publicized. Smart kid.

This turned up in comments below our first report on the story :

He described himself and other passengers as being startled and that while some people started to panic, a large male passenger put the suspect in a head lock while other passengers and flight crew put out the flames.
