Authorities have taken into custody the 66-year-old man considered a "person of interest" after he allegedly tried to drive his vehicle into a nuclear facility, following a nearly 24-hour manhunt.
Doyle Wayne Whisenhunt of Lockesburg, Arkansas, was located inside a vacant property in Oconee, South Carolina, Friday, according to the Pickens County Sheriff's Office, WYFF-TV reported.
He was taken into custody without incident.
Whisenhunt is suspected of crashing his silver 2002 Toyota Camry through a gate at the Oconee Nuclear Station in Walhalla, South Carolina, Thursday evening, according to a news release.
He was identified as a "person of interest" by the Pickens County Sheriff’s Office at a news conference Friday, according to the outlet.
During the incident, security activated the plant’s pop-up barricade, prompting Whisenhunt to allegedly attempt to strike officers with his car before driving through an alternate fence, police said.
Authorities suspect he tried to hit another security officer with his vehicle before exiting the plant and driving to a private property in Pickens County, where the property owner allegedly fired off warning shots to scare Whisenhunt away, WYFF-TV reported, citing the sheriff's office.
Whisenhunt’s abandoned vehicle was recovered in the woods Friday afternoon, police said.
He is wanted on drug and weapons charges in Arkansas and remains at large, according to authorities.

Sheriff Mike Crenshaw told WYFF-TV there is no evidence the incident is domestic terrorism.
