High-ranking policeman killed while fighting terrorists in Somalia
|
 [REGNUM] Farhan Mohamud Adan , head of the Banadir region police , was killed in a clash with militants from the al-Shabab terrorist group (an organization whose activities are banned in the Russian Federation) in Somalia, the press service of the Somali police reported.
It is reported that the anti-terrorist operation took place in the city of Balad, located 30 kilometers north of the Somali capital of Mogadishu. According to the press service, Adan led this operation.
“Terrorism is a threat to life. We will never give up our goal of ensuring the security of the country and the destruction of terrorism ,” the press service added.
It is noted that during the counter-terrorist operation, the security forces faced fierce resistance from militants. According to preliminary data, Adan died when his convoy was blown up by an explosive device.

In the same IED blast that killed Farhan Qarole, a journalist working for the state media was also killed. The Al-Shabaab militant group claimed responsibility for the attack, according to social media sites supporting the group.

Reports say that Gen. Farhan died on the spot after a landmine blast struck him while walking, and some of his bodyguards were reportedly killed in the incident.
Farhan served in the past as the commander of the Haramcad brigade before he was appointed in April 2021 as the chief of the police force of the capital.
The Basra area is a strategic location of great importance for al-Shabaab, and it is where they used to cross from three regions and organize their operations in the capital.
