Prosecutor DeSantis suspended is 'not going down without a fight': Twice-elected state attorney says governor 'is trying to overthrow democracy in Florida' after suspension for refusing to enforce state's abortion ban

On Thursday, Florida's conservative Governor Ron DeSantis suspended Democratic county prosecutor Andrew Warren

DeSantis described Warren as being 'Soros-backed' and was guilty of 'incompetence and willful defiance' for his refusal to prosecute abortion cases

The governor also cited Warren's statements on not prosecuting cases involving minors' gender transition procedures as a reason for the suspension

In a new video, Warren said that he is 'not going down without a fight' and is planning a 'vigorous defense'

Warren also said: 'Ron DeSantis is trying to overthrow democracy in Florida'

#1 The governor in Florida can basically fire anybody in gummint. State supreme court could check him, but probably won't in this case.

#2 I believe it's explicitly stated in the FL constitution that the Governor can fire anyone for dereliction of duty.
The DA signed a couple of letters that he would not prosecute certain laws. That he would flat-out not prosecute them.

I don't think he understands what the word 'democracy' means.* If the law was passed by the legislative branch, it's democracy.

* for the Left the word 'democracy' is only part of the "Peoples' Democratic Republic of..." which has never been democratic or republican in form or substance.

#10 Murcek, my understanding is the governor can only suspend this prosecutor -- the legislature has the final say on removing him or reinstating him.

As for the guy's whining -- he wanted to pick and choose which laws to enforce. There's a fine line between "discretion" and "abdication", and he clearly crossed it.
