Marine who blasted Afghan withdrawal forced to undergo mental health check

[NYPOST] The US Marine Corps officer who was relieved of his command over a battalion for chastising his bosses over the botched Afghan withdrawal has revealed that he was ordered to undergo a mental health screening.

"When I went into work this morning, I was ordered by my commanding officer to go to the Hospital for a mental health screening," Lt. Col. Stuart Scheller wrote on Facebook on Monday.

"I was evaluated by the mental health specialists and then sent on my way. My CO is a standup guy, and I understand why he did it," he added.

A day earlier, the officer said in a YouTube video that he was sticking by his guns and resigning his commission — walking away from a $2 million pension after 17 years of service.

Scheller explained that despite being relieved of his duties, he was still an active Marine — until he completes his resignation, which he said was sparked in part by a former commander who wrote on LinkedIn that he should resign "’if he was honorable."

CO probably wanted as little fuss as possible with the brass. I would have found a way to give him paid leave to think about it all and come back. Maybe even counseled him against it.

3 ...If you'd like to see just how 'caring' the US military can be when it comes to people who have embarrassed them, read the late COL Jack Broughton's Going Downtown.

Short version - one of Broughton's F-105 pilots let things get away from him, and accidentally strafed a Soviet freighter in Haiphong Harbor. He came straight to Broughton, who knew the kid's career was toast if anybody found out, so he destroyed the gun camera footage. Somebody snitched, and Broughton and the pilot were not only formally charged, but they were given 'mental health evaluations' lasting several days in order to get them to confess the error of their ways.

They didn't, and at the court martial the USAF got slapped even harder when the jury (which included then-COL Chuck Yeager) found Broughton not guilty on all counts but one: destruction of Government property. They fined him $20 for the cost of the film and gave him an LOR.

It was the end of Broughton's career, but read his description of his mental health evaluation. Had I seen that before I enlisted, I may well never have done so.

4 His security clearance has very likely been suspended, ensuring he'll never work for a government contractor or the government. Holding public office may also be a challenge. If the shrink's report states that he "could be in danger of hurting himself or suicide due to PTSD"..... well, we'll just have to leave it at that.

The intent here is to ruin the young man and set an example for others within the ranks.

Marine LT Col Stuart Scheller released a new video from an abandon school bus on his Linked in Page. This was all started after he called for senior leadership responsible for the failure in the Kabul evacuations to be held accountable.

There is little known about what the former Marine Commander's next steps are, so we don't want to speculate on anything at this time. Some quotes that stuck out from his latest video include, "All I asked for was the accountability of my senior leaders"

"When I am done with what I am about to do, you all are going to need the jobs and the security."

"Follow me and we will bring the whole F***** system down."
