Iran face a choice: Inspections or another war

Text:

🚨 IRAN FACES A CHOICE: INSPECTIONS — OR ANOTHER WAR

Axios reports that Iran is expected to put a Qatar-led nuclear proposal before Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei in the coming days.

The reported framework:
• UN inspectors gain access to Iran’s bombed nuclear sites
• Iran receives limited sanctions relief
• Tehran gains access to some frozen funds

But the alternative could be military escalation.

According to U.S. and Israeli officials cited in reports, if diplomacy fails, preparations are being made for a renewed U.S.-Israeli bombing campaign after the U.S. midterm elections.

The diplomatic window may be closing.

1 Wall St. Journal:

America’s Military Presence Reshapes Hormuz

Progress is undeniable, and there is a clear explanation.

As your editorial highlights in ā€œThe Democratic Hormuz Alternativeā€ (Oct. 16), some are ready to declare defeat and hand the Strait of Hormuz to the Islamic Republic of Iran.

But the tide is beginning to turn in the battle for the Strait of Hormuz—thanks to the U.S. military. It is performing two tasks superbly and simultaneously: the implementing of a naval blockade of Iran and facilitating the export of non-Iran oil through the Strait of Hormuz.

Excluding humanitarian shipments, the naval blockade has largely prevented Iranian imports or exports by sea, depriving it of $25 billion in crude-oil export revenue. That makes it more difficult for Iran to fund domestic repression, bankroll international terrorism and rebuild its military.

Meanwhile, about 400 merchant ships have sailed through the Strait of Hormuz, while U.S. forces have helped Gulf partners ship more than 100 million barrels of crude oil over seven days. That’s possible because the U.S. military has decimated Iran’s navy, cleared the strait’s international shipping lanes of mines and degraded Tehran’s missile and drone capabilities.

It is too soon to declare mission accomplished. But progress is undeniable, and there is a clear explanation: the capability of the U.S. military.
