earliest Turkey Israeli conflict

The earliest significant friction between Turkey and Israel occurred during the **1956 Suez Crisis**. Although Turkey had recognized Israel in 1949 and engaged in secret military cooperation (the "peripheral pact") by 1958, Ankara condemned Israel’s belligerence during the 1956 war. This diplomatic strain led Turkey to **downgrade its diplomatic mission** in Tel Aviv from a Legation to the level of Charge d’Affaires in November 1956.

Subsequent early tensions included Turkey’s refusal in 1973 to allow the United States to use its bases or airspace to resupply Israel during the Arab-Israeli War, though it did permit Soviet use of Turkish airspace to deliver arms to Egypt and Syria.

I expect the conflict existed well before country demarcations.

2 well for about 400 years, Turkey was the occupying power that ruled what is now Israel (as well as lots of other places - many of whom hold a grudge)
