2 None of the stories on either side is accurate. Each team has ownership. The Fever is the most financially viable WNBA franchise. Caitlin is not leaving. The Cunningham contract is a scam. As a free agent she can’t be claimed in an expansion draft. She will be re-signed every year by the Fever because it is financially advantageous to play with her friend. The Fever get to stash a role player that fills stadiums when Caitlin is resting without having to protect her. Cunningham would get claimed in an expansion draft by any team that was seeking to make money. It would not really work as well for the Fever or for Cunningham. She would start, get a bump in salary and lose half her social media relevance. It wouldn’t really work for the expansion team either. All the usual folks would be mad.
