QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – U.S. Ambassador to Türkiye Tom Barrack said Syria plays a key role in efforts to reduce regional tensions, following talks with Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani in Istanbul on Thursday.

In a post on X, Barrack described Syria as a key component of the complex regional picture, saying it was helping the Middle East find ways to ease tensions among neighboring countries.
Barrack said he was pleased to meet al-Shaibani to discuss shared priorities in addressing regional threats. He added that history rarely offers the region an opportunity to rearrange its affairs, saying such an opportunity was available now.
According to Syria’s Foreign Ministry, the meeting focused on bilateral relations, regional developments, and prospects for cooperation and coordination on issues of mutual interest.
The ministry said the two sides also discussed efforts to support regional security and stability.
The meeting came amid continued diplomatic engagement between Damascus and Washington on bilateral relations and regional issues.
