Houthis attack Saudi Arabian airports with missiles
|
[Regnum] Yemeni Houthis launched ballistic missiles at Riyadh and Khamis Mushayt. Saudi Arabian coalition forces spokesman Al-Maliki reported this on October 8.
"We intercepted and destroyed two ballistic missiles launched by the Houthi terrorist group towards Riyadh," he wrote on the social network X.
Ansar Allah (Houthi) military spokesman Yahya Saria told Al Masirah TV that one missile strike hit King Khaled International Airport in Riyadh.
According to the kingdom's civil defense service, a kindergarten and a medical complex in Riyadh were damaged by falling ballistic missile debris.
On October 5, the Houthis declared Saudi Arabian airspace, with the exception of the skies over Mecca and Medina, a military operation zone. The movement reported strikes with ballistic and cruise missiles, as well as drones, on the airports of Riyadh and Abha, and other targets. Following the attack on King Khalid Airport in Riyadh, air travel was disrupted.
Russian presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov stated that Russia is watching with concern the development of the conflict between the Houthis and Saudi Arabia in the wake of the attack on Riyadh. He noted that the situation is indeed extremely alarming, with tensions in the Persian Gulf region already skyrocketing. The Kremlin spokesman also noted that no one has yet approached Russia to mediate in the conflict.
