School protests sweeping France cause 'heaviest toll in decades'
It’s notable how many of the schools are in Moslem-dominated communities and how many Palestinian flags are being waved by “Allahu akhbar”-shouting Moslem colonists.
[Reuters] Demonstrations swept across France on Tuesday as teachers and parents took to the streets with high school pupils on the biggest day of what Prime Minister Sebastien Lecornu described as the most violent student demonstrations in decades.

Police fired tear gas and water cannons to disperse violent groups on the fringes of marches in Paris, Strasbourg, Rennes and Toulouse, among other cities. The ‌marches drew more than 250,000 people in dozens of cities, the interior ministry said, though organisers said 450,000 had participated.

The protests, in which a teenager lost a hand on Monday, were the latest manifestation of public anger in a country where support for populist parties on the far right and far left has surged ahead of a presidential election in the spring.

The government is under pressure to tame public debt amid weak growth, and has struggled with basic tasks such as passing a budget since President Emmanuel Macron's allies lost their majority in a 2024 parliamentary vote.

Lecornu told lawmakers at least 215 teenagers and 85 school staff had so far been injured in clashes, "the heaviest toll in decades paid by the school system". His office said more than 700 police officers were also hurt.

Macron has convened Lecornu and other senior ministers at an emergency meeting on Tuesday, broadcaster BFM reported.

US President Donald Trump said the protests were evidence of "out of control" migration in France. "This isn't about schools, this is about Islam wanting to take over a once great Country," he posted on Truth Social.

The students' demands do not concern religion or immigration, but focus instead on understaffing and lack of funding.

Marine Le Pen's far-right National Rally party has not linked the protests to France's migration policy. Lecornu's office did not respond to a request for comment.

In Marseille and Nantes, protesters held up handmade signs bearing phrases such as "The state has killed national education". In Toulouse, parents linked arms at the front of a march through the city.

Paris police said clashes in the capital resulted from some 300 people, most hooded or masked, facing off against security forces, and that the protest generally unfolded without major incident elsewhere. Several storefronts were damaged.

The Interior Ministry said 488 people had been arrested and 48 security personnel were injured on Tuesday.

MAINTENANCE COMPLAINTS
The student protests began in September in the deprived suburbs of Paris before spreading nationwide.

Students complain about schools facing basic maintenance problems, from water leaks to rat infestations.
How much spending on maintenance and school supplies has resulted from riot damage or deliberate day-to-day destruction rather than normal wear and tear?
The High School Students Union said more than half of France's high schools were blockaded or had closed for the day. Some local education authorities have tried to move classes online.

Rights groups, ‌students and parent groups have accused authorities of using disproportionate force against minors. The government says the protest movement has been hijacked by outsiders and in some places deteriorated into urban violence.

More than 1,800 people are being prosecuted for unspecified crimes, including 1,483 minors, the justice ministry said on Monday.

"They want to divide the young people into good and bad protesters," said Omar Slaouti, a high-school teacher in Argenteuil, a northwestern suburb of Paris. "If there were no trash cans on fire, the government would not have stepped back and become aware of the issues at stake."

5 French school riots deepen as experts point to far-left alliance fueling ‘broader confrontation’

"The protests started in an apparently spontaneous way in the disadvantaged, immigrant suburbs of Paris," Nathalie Szerman, researcher in radicalization and extremism in France at MEMRI, told Fox News Digital, but "it quickly became clear that the violence demonstrated in these protests conveyed a huge amount of hate towards the ‘system’ and not much concern for better material conditions in schools, as dozens of schools across France have suffered vandalism and blockades, and many were even set on fire."

Szerman said that while demonstrations over school conditions at the beginning of an academic year in France "is not a new phenomenon," the "scope of these demonstrations and their character should raise concerns." She points to protestors taking to the streets carrying Palestinian flags. "Pro-Palestinian organizations, such as Urgence Palestine, have declared the month of October to be a month of revolt, and these groups are supporting and fueling these demonstrations."

8 Does this mean it's on in France? Is this how it starts?

Arise, children of the Fatherland, The day of glory has arrived! Against us tyranny's bloody banner is raised. Do you hear, in the countryside, the roar of those ferocious soldiers? They're coming right into your arms to cut the throats of your sons, your women!

Aux armes, citoyens ! Formez vos bataillons ! Marchons ! Marchons ! Qu'un sang impur Abreuve nos sillons !

To arms, citizens! Form your battalions! Let us march! Let us march! May impure blood water our furrows!

What does this horde of slaves, of traitors, of conspiring kings want? For whom these vile chains, these long-prepared irons? Frenchmen, for us, ah! what outrage, what fury it must arouse! It is to us they dare to plan a return to ancient slavery!

What! Foreign cohorts would make the law in our homes! What! These mercenary phalanxes would strike down our proud warriors! Great God! By chained hands our brows would bend beneath the yoke! Vile despots would become the masters of our destinies!

Tremble, tyrants and you traitors, the shame of all parties, tremble! Your parricidal schemes will finally receive their reward! Everyone is a soldier to fight you; if they fall, our young heroes, the earth produces new ones, ready to fight against you!

Frenchmen, as magnanimous warriors, strike or hold back your blows! Spare these sad victims, who regretfully arm themselves against us. But not these bloodthirsty despots, these accomplices of Bouillé, all these tigers who, without pity, tear their mother's breast!

Sacred love of the Fatherland, lead and support our avenging arms! Liberty, beloved Liberty, fight with your defenders! Under our flags, may victory hasten to your manly tones, that your dying enemies see your triumph and our glory!

We shall enter the (military) career when our elders are no longer there; there we shall find their dust and the trace of their virtues. Much less keen to survive them than to share their coffins, we shall have the sublime pride of avenging or following them.
