QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Syria’s General Intelligence Directorate, in cooperation with Internal Security forces in Damascus countryside, arrested a senior Islamic State (ISIS) commander in Damascus countryside, the Interior Ministry said Tuesday.
The ministry identified the detainee as Khaled Raed Bairouni, also known as “Abu Hassan Dushka,” saying he was arrested during a security operation in Hajira town in Damascus countryside.
According to security information and ongoing investigations, Bairouni had served as ISIS’s military commander in its “Homs Province,” the ministry said.
It accused him of planning and overseeing several attacks in Homs, including the preparation and use of explosive devices as well as attacks with a sectarian nature.
The ministry also accused Bairouni of responsibility for the bombing that targeted Ali bin Abi Talib Mosque in Homs’ Wadi al-Dhahab neighborhood last year.
Security forces are continuing to question the detainee to determine the details of his activities and complete legal procedures against him, the ministry said.
