1 The "New Academic Standards" must have ran counter to the long-established (but no longer discussed) DEI quotas and goals.

While we seem to be on the topic of 'quotas and goals' perhaps promotion boards should be examined as well.

3 There is a race problem buried in this, and no one, even these days, wants to face that ugly conversation.

In the old days of my time, we navigated around the worst of it by making the assignments peripheral to core capabilities, mainlining those who were actually competent, and keeping the losers in short term positions, usually 18-36 months.

By mid-grade captain, you could read the story pretty quickly from the 201 assignments page, not the OERs. But now, we see the impact of "need one of those as a flag officer" that turned into many senior rabbi's with crops of "bring alongs" now wearing stars!

Pete has done yeoman's work, but this is a core problem that will be a bitch to clean up, and will make a radioactive career taint for those who confront it head-on.
