1 It can be done. I can do a pot of chili and get the serving cost down to about $5-$6. It freezes well too. Mine is hamburger, breakfast sausage, peppers, onions, tomato sauce, tomato paste, diced tomatoes and various spices. Cut out the vegetables & sausage and it's even cheaper and reasonably healthy.

One can do the same with soups too

2 Under $5? Really? Well, I suppose those recipes consist mainly of water then. When I go to the grocery store and see a green bell pepper for $1.49, each, and not organic ones, then something is just horribly wrong.

3 P.S. - But kudos to RFK, Jr., for promoting healthier meals. But unless the food industry can get the garbage chemicals/additives out of our food, then there's not much hope.
