8 It becomes increasingly clear that dealing with "Iran" is about one of numerous power-centered groups, and while some of the bifurcation is intentional to buy time and string-out the negotiations to get concessions and offers, other aspects are independent actors within the IRGC who cannot be muzzled, threatened or controlled by the weakened talking heads in Tehran.

Talking to a many headed hydra seems pointless and all the while the midterms draw closer and the impression of negiotions failing keeps Trump from claiming a genuine finish and success.

Nothing resembling success seems likely as long as the piece-meal whack-a-mole reactive behavior makes the Iranians look damaged but undefeated (even though they virtually are, in political American media, perception, not reality, matters most, especially when most of they are your deranged enemy). Quagmire looms because we stopped the air campaign before they were utterly devastated. Humanitarian and at the urging of the Gulf-States leadership, but a mistake.

Any course of action now is damaging:
- status quo and we look less powerful and the midterms bite grows,
- abandoning the Gulf entirely, they look like winners,
- resuming full-scale military op, we look like we screwed up in letting them up from the mat.

Wish I didn't see it this way...
