3 The Taliban don’t want that kind of tourist, Frank G. They’ve left archeological sites unguarded to encourage vandalism and theft, so that the evidence of a competing historical narrative evaporates. The Saudis have instead for decades erased historic sites, often by building over them, for the same reason.
