3 Listening to a couple of AWFULs talking recently, I was struck by how very badly misinformed they are. They will never read about Afua Atta-Mensah or Cea Weaver. Never. The New York Times and CBS will make damn sure they won't. It's a shame that otherwise intelligent people, nice people, have no fucking clue.

4 They need not be misinformed if they choose not to be, Abu Uluque. Back in thr second half of the ‘90s I was a dedicated New York Times/The Atlantic reader, and the International Herald Tribune when I could get it — that last a joint project of the NYT and thr Washington Post out of their Paris office. Then Mr. Wife shared his on-line subscription of the Wall Street Journal, and I started discussing the articles with interesting people I discovered in the comments of the WSJ editorial page like a retired Army Special Forces colonel named Gary Brosch, who very kindly explained what was going on during the invasion of Iraq in 2003. I still have the long and detailed email he wrote me — it’s one of my treasures.

The point being that it isn’t hard to escape the bubble. One only need to choose to do so, and there is an entire world out there full of people happy to add to one’s understanding.
