1 Let's rephrase that - "We can't find someone else to train and provide these jobs"

They don't want to pay for the training themselves, they want someone else to foot the bill. They'll send out checks to universities and colleges but not apprenticeship programs. Follow the DoD model, sign them up with a obligation of x number of years of work upon completion of training. Treat them as assets not liabilities on the accounting books.

3 That and the 'Flat Rate' style of payment where pay is based on a pre-set amount of time for each job, regardless of how long it actually takes, is turning off many within the trade.

The modern vehicles are often a nightmare to work on where every bit of space conflicts with another.

Also the certifications required to work on each make and model of vehicle. The 'EV Certifications' are the most complex, especially for the hybrids.

7 Here's an idea, lets put the fuel pump INSIDE the gas tank !!!

And make sure that the tank opening for that pump is 100% inaccessible unless you remove the driveshaft, differential, exhaust system from the manifolds back, subframes, rear axles and upper/lower control arms. Then one gets to lower the tank itself for pump accessibility. Make sure that there are a lot of hoses and electrical connections on that pump, too.

When done repairing/replacing the pump (which you can't determine which to do until it's totally removed and tested), put EVERYTHING back together without damage or misalignment.

It gets even more fun when there's more than an eighth of a tank worth of fuel in the tank.

Give yourself half a day (at least) using an appropriate vehicle lift. Even more if you're doing it the 'driveway special' way.

Of course the 'Flat Rate Geniuses' only give you around 2.5 hours worth of pay for doing this.
