3 The proposal starts with Hamas freeing all the hostages within 48 hours — which I cannot imagine them doing — and ends with an independent Palestinian state; but one of the interim steps is reform of the Palestinian Authority, so that won’t happen either, even after President Mahmoud Abbas shuffles off this mortal coil.

Still, events will make it clear it isn’t Israel preventing Palestinian sovereignty, but the Palestinians once again walking away from it in favour of the chance to kill more Jews.
