Please, for the uninformed, someone explain how Venezuela acquired M-16 fighters.

2 They bought 'em 42 years ago when they were still on our side. They're all A models with one or two 2-seat Bs; and time has not been kind to them. By fighter standards the Vipers are pretty easy to maintain but a couple decades of embargoes and shoestring operations haven't done them any favors. Their actual capability should be judged thusly: they bought 24, lost two in accidents, and could put one up go go 'Boo!" at the United States Navy.

5 I did a UNITAS cruise in the early 90’s. We operated with the Venezuelan navy at the time. I suspect that a call to On-Star could probably turn those planes into submarines without shots fired.
