does Israel have satellites

**Yes, Israel has an extensive and indigenous satellite program.** The **Israel Space Agency** manages a fleet of active satellites, with recent data indicating **26 objects currently in orbit** and **20 active** among 74 cataloged objects. Israel is the **eighth nation** to achieve independent orbital launch capability and remains the smallest country with its own space agency and launch infrastructure.

**Key satellite programs include:**

* **Ofek Series:** A line of **military reconnaissance satellites** launched domestically via the **Shavit rocket** from Palmachim Airbase. The most recent launch, **Ofek-19**, occurred in **September 2025**, providing high-resolution radar and optical intelligence.
* **AMOS Series:** A fleet of **commercial communications satellites** operated by Spacecom, providing broadcasting and telecom services globally since the 1990s.
* **EROS Series:** **Commercial Earth observation satellites** capable of high-resolution imaging, with newer models like EROS-C3 launched in 2022.
* **Dror-1:** Launched in **July 2025**, this is Israel’s first **state-owned communications satellite**, marking a strategic shift toward national independence in space communications.

Israel’s space sector is led by **Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI)**, which manufactures both the satellites and the launch vehicles, integrating advanced **artificial intelligence** for real-time intelligence and operational efficiency.
