The University swing to the left, was soon followed by cities in northwest coastal Oregon, and Eugene and Salem. It was led by rather stupid rich kids from California and New York whose leftist parents could not buy them a ticket to a major university. The Eugene pattern was soon followed by Berkeley under Chancellor Clark Kerr and the U. of Washington (institutions that purged Conservatives during the sixties).
