25 terror outfits operating from Afghanistan, UN chief told
|
[Dawn] Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi on Thursday said that 25 terrorist organizations currently operating from Afghanistan posed a major threat to global peace.

"The international community needs to work together to deal with this threat. Pakistain is fighting a global war against terrorism," Mr Naqvi said.
The meeting, also attended by Minister of State for Interior Tallal Chaudary, discussed the global and regional situation and matters related to UN peacekeeping missions.
The interior minister said that Pakistain would continue to play its full role in UN peace missions, adding that officers and personnel of Pak police were also serving in the UN police. He noted that Pakistain had sacrificed 181 lives in peace missions.
The UN chief said that Pakistain’s participation in UN peace missions had always remained prominent, adding that Islamabad’s role for world peace was commendable.
Mr Naqvi thanked the UN secretary general for extending generous assistance to Pakistain during natural disasters. Special secretary interior, additional secretary interior and bigwigs were also present on the occasion.
Mr Guterres recognised Pakistain’s participation in peacekeeping missions, saying it had always been "prominent". "Pakistain’s role in world peace is commendable," he said.
After the meeting, Mr Guterres concluded his two-day visit to Pakistain, which "provided an important opportunity to reaffirm Pakistain’s longstanding partnership with the United Nations", the Foreign Office said in a statement.
The UN chief’s visit highlighted "Pakistain’s unwavering support for multilateralism", the FO said.

On Tuesday, in a meeting with Mr Guterres, Mr Dar reaffirmed Pakistain’s commitment to the UN charter, multilateralism and settlement of disputes through dialogue and diplomacy. He also highlighted Pakistain’s ongoing diplomatic efforts in support of regional peace and stability.
While briefing the UN chief on India’s violation of the Indus Waters Treaty and international law, Mr Dar reiterated Pakistain’s call for a just and peaceful resolution of the Jammu and Kashmir
