Bolsonaro Jr. Leading Socialist Lulu in Brazil
[Reuters] Brazilian Senator Flavio Bolsonaro will face President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva in the runoff of a presidential election, after the challenger took some 47% of valid votes in ‌the first round on Sunday, beating the forecasts in most private surveys.

The two leading candidates will advance to the second round of voting on October 25, after topping a field of 12 candidates in a campaign focused on concerns about the growing cost of living, corruption and insecurity in Brazilians' daily lives.

Bolsonaro, the son of right-wing former President Jair Bolsonaro, who is serving a 27-year sentence for plotting a coup after losing the 2022 election, now heads to a showdown with the leftist Lula, who picked up 44.9% of votes, with nearly 99% of votes reported.

---------
Runoff will be in Oct. Allies of Bolsonaro won a number of other elections for Legislature or municipal govt. By the way, paper ballots are NOT used in Brazil. Biometric or Govt ID is required to vote. NO absentee votes are allowed.

4 Brasil election: Lula faces Flavio Bolsonaro in runoff

Brazil's presidential election is heading to a runoff after neither candidate secured the majority needed for an outright victory.

Incumbent President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva is seeking a fourth non-consecutive term, while his challenger, Senator Flavio Bolsonaro, hopes to return Brazil to the conservative policies associated with his father, former president Jair Bolsonaro.

With Bolsonaro narrowly leading the first round, both candidates are now battling for undecided voters. The campaign is expected to focus on social programs, the cost-of-living crisis, corruption, security and Brazil's future foreign policy direction, making the runoff a pivotal moment for Latin America's largest economy.

7 Nicaragua is still under comrade Daniel Ortega and his family.

They are aligned with Cuba and mostly socialist but with a fair dose of corruption, feudalism and gangsterism.
