2 According to this explainer, the Satmar do not agree with the Israeli government, but they have an active charitable outreach program that they extend far beyond their own community to include the Jews in Israel. And they don’t turn their backs on the modern world so much as I thought — while the men study Torah and work within the community, at least some of the women have secular jobs outside it.

Some of them could be staying in Israel to manage the charities, I suppose.
