4 Actually the courts didn't ban him because he was a member of the AfD, but because of his contacts with true extremists (NPD). This raised questions about his loyalty to the constitution.

You need to know that mayors are what you call "Wahlbeamte" (civil servants paid by the state), and if there are serious concerns about loyalty to the constitution, they can't be civil servants. The same would happen to a radical Antifa member.

He can appeal his ban, and if it's overturned, elections must be repeated.
