#3 The ballot arguments for the original bonds were all lies. There are no ridership revenue projections that meet reality. It's cooked. Pictures of the 119 mile unfinished structures will be banned and down the Memory Hole it will go

#4 The Calif H S Rail has been such a disaster that it has led to the canceling of planning of other high speed rail projects.

This may prove to be its most significant accomplishment.

#6 ^
there already is a rail corridor between LA and the SF area (Oakland)

it is an Amtrak line called the Coast Starlight
in the summer it is pretty crowded and about 1000 people a day take this line between LA and Oakland although many board or disembark at intermediate stations

#9 Once tried to guesstimate what sort of bus system could be permanently funded for the estimated final cost of this mess, using what seemed to me conservative numbers at every step. Result was multiple departures per hour in each direction, SD-SF. And the flexibility of routing and whatnot! Just about broke me heart (I'm a cheapskate who actually likes public transit).

#10 And of course busses free you from the "few billion here, few billion there" tolls paid to Poseidon and the lethal profession.

#11 It's no one's fault, really. It just kind of happened.
