I don't think they will put boots on the ground, or tibet the pashtuns. The Chinese will likely contract the very saleable Taliban, first weaning them away from the Pakis, and then use them to enforce whatever resource rape and empire building they want to do here.

Look for Pakistan to whine about being cut out as a negotiators for the Shura, when this happens. They will likely make a hue and cry and instigate those brilliant men in Langley to oppose China's business with the new emirs. And Langley will hop to it. Whoever's in the WH then will be appeasing Pakistain by fighting with China in Afghanistan, and the excuse given to Americans will be : We are containing China now, didn't you want just that?

#18 I don't understand why the Chinese want to be in Afghanistan. Sure they have mineral wealth but the cost of providing the infrastructure to get at it is a bunch and they you have to keep guarding the infrastructure.

And Afghanistan will not be able to repay loans either.

Sometime the Chinese are driven by some sort of cultural cult but they really should be able to see how foolish this is.
