7 Running things by the numbers is a good way to keep track of what is going on. Problems arise when it is easier to cook the books than fix the problems being measured, which is almost always. It gets worse when bonuses are allocated based on performance. It takes a high degree of organizational discipline to keep things from going into the weeds.
