2 I suspect there are other pressures that are a factor as well. We see fairly similar behavior among the city gangs. Few or no decent jobs and no way to make a better life for themselves will push people down paths that they might not have taken otherwise. Since preying other on males that are relatively healthy is both dangerous and could start a gang war, minors and senior citizen's make much better (safer) targets.

3 As the society becomes more Moslem, Chantry, the economy withers because a plunder ethos replaces cultivation of hard work and knowledge, except for the dhimmi underclass, which nonetheless begins to neglect visible achievement and acquisition when it becomes clear that will just lead to them being plundered more by their Master Religion overlords.
