Interesting Coincidence - The Last 8 Members of Congress Who Died Were All Democrats |
2025-05-23 |
[BusinessInsider] No coincidence at all. While the Republicans started replacing their country club Republicans like Mitt Romney in 2007 with first TEA Partiers and then MAGA Trumpsters, the Democrat Old Guard were holding tight to power — leaving only when carried out by six, including a state funeral attended by all the former presidents except Donald Trump, who was openly told his presence wasn’t wanted.
In the last two and a half years, eight sitting members of the House or Senate have died in office. Every time, it's been a Democrat. Rep. Gerry Connolly of Virginia, the top Democrat on the House Oversight Committee, died on Wednesday at 75, after a battle with esophageal cancer. He's the third House Democrat to die in the last three months. If Democrats had gained a narrow 1 or 2-seat majority in 2024, they would have lost it by now. The streak of Democratic deaths could just be something of a coincidence. After all, there are plenty of elderly and diminished Republican lawmakers on Capitol Hill, including former Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell. But Democrats do tend to be older than Republicans, on average. A report from FiscalNote found that in the last Congress, the average House Democrat was six years older than the average House Republican, while the gap was seven years in he upper chamber. There are some potential structural reasons for this as well, including the seniority system, which Democrats tend to employ more than Republicans. The deaths are just another data point in a long-running conversation that's been raging within the Democratic Party for years about age and gerontocracy, which culminated last year in President Joe Biden's decision to drop out of the presidential race after a disastrous debate performance. Since then, Democrats in particular have been taking age more seriously, including when it comes to who's serving in important committee positions. Connolly notably beat back a challenge from Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York in December for the Oversight position he's now vacated. Here's the full list of Democratic lawmakers who have died in office since November 2022:

Who could be Harris' VP if Biden drops out of presidential race? |
2024-07-20 |
[GEO.TV] US Vice President Kamala Harris is on the Democratic forefront to become the party’s presidential race nominee if President Joe Biden stepped down as the presidential candidate. Harris has earned favour of the Democrats after Biden’s weak debate performance against former president Donald Trump in June. This has resulted in the Democrats - publicly and privately - pressuring Biden to step down from the race and aiming their support for VP Harris who was named Biden’s running mate for his election campaign. Polls conducted by The Economist also suggest that 79% of the Democrats would support Harris if she is to replace Biden for the upcoming election in November. If Harris is elected as the party’s nominee in the wake of Biden stepping down, then it would leave another seat vacant and that is of the running mate. Following are some candidates Harris can pick as her running mate if Biden steps down and she is nominated for the presidential election candidacy: These are besides AOC, Elizabeth Warren, Hillary, and Sheila Jackson Lee. ROY COOPER Roy Cooper is the Governor of North Carolina and has known Harris since they were attorney general of North Carolina and California, respectively. Cooper has also run on a ticket against Trump and won twice. In 2016, he won by opposing a bill that would have banned transgenders from using public restrooms as per their gender and in 2020, he was reelected on the basis of managing the state during the COVID-19 epidemic. JOSH SHAPIRO Governor of Pennsylvania Josh Shapiro is a popular political figure and strange as well as many Republicans support him. He has handled several crisis during his tenure including the train incident in East Palestine, Ohio which is at the borders of the state he governs; Pennsylvania. The 1-95 bridge in the State of Pennsylvania collapsed in 2023, Shapiro handled that incident quickly and the bridge was reconstructed immediately. He has also won against Trump when the former president sued Pennsylvania and challenged the 2020 election results of the state but Shapiro secured legal victory against Trump. MARK KELLY Democrat and Senator Mark Kelly is a rare anomaly with him being a former veteran and astronaut. The senator debuted in politics when his wife and former congresswoman Gabby Giffords was shot in the head and had to retire in 2011 due to the injuries posed by the event. That urged Kelly to advocate to end gun violence in the country. Back in 2020, Biden and Harris turned Arizona blue for the Democratic Party but Kelly won the election which put out Senator John McCain and then two years later, he beat pro-Trumpism Republican candidate Blake Masters. Kelly is definitely an excellent pick for a running mate but he has a strong hold over Arizona and if the Democrats take him out of the state then they might lose the state. TIM WALZ Tim Walz, governor of Minnesota is also a veteran. He handled the uproar of the “Black Lives Matter” movement after George Floyd was killed by the police in Minneapolis. During his tenure, he has strongly worked for abortion rights in the state. Walz has also worked to provide free school meals regardless of the incomes of the students’ parents. Walz could also help in making important states like Michigan blue for the Democrats as he has been holding down the fort for the party during the Republican National Convention in Wisconsin. [FoxNews] Jackson Lee previously battled breast cancer in 2011 U.S. Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee, D-Texas, announced Sunday night that she is being treated for pancreatic cancer, but assured her constituents that she will soon be back at full strength. Jackson Lee, 74, has been representing Texas' 18th congressional district for 30 years. The congresswoman said she will "likely be occasionally absent from Congress" as she undergoes treatment, but emphasized that her office will continue to deliver the constituent services they "deserve and expect." * A human pancreas transplant is incompatible. Perhaps a Rodent? Jackson Lee previously battled breast cancer, having been diagnosed in 2011 before announcing the following year she was cancer free. The Democrat served as a judge before she was elected to an at-large Houston City Council seat in 1989. "Please keep me and my family in your prayers as you have always done. Know that you will remain in mine," she concluded. "As always, God bless you and God bless the United States of America." |

Billionaire investor pans student protests at alma mater Harvard as ‘anarchy' as colleges surrender on divestment and Cornell pres. quits | |
2024-05-12 | |
[IsraelTimes] Kenneth Griffin says university should embrace ’Western values,’ put meritocracy ’front and center’ Billionaire investor Kenneth Griffin called on his alma mater Harvard University on Saturday to embrace "Western values," saying that the turmoil across college campuses was the product of a "cultural revolution" in US education. Griffin, founder of US hedge fund Citadel, told the Financial Times in an interview that the US had "lost sight of education as the means of pursuing truth and acquiring knowledge" over the past decade. "Harvard should put front and center [that it] stands for meritocracy in America...," Griffin said, adding that schools should "embrace Western values that have built one of the greatest nations in the world." Griffin, who has donated more than half a billion dollars to Harvard University, said in January that he has halted donations to the school over how it handled antisemitism on campus.
"The protests on college campuses are almost like performative art..," he said. Or a hysterical temper tantrum "Freedom of speech does not give you the right to storm a building or vandalize it," he added. "That’s not freedom of speech. That’s just anarchy." Since the first mass arrests at Columbia University on April 18, at least 2,600 demonstrators have been detained at more than 100 protests in 39 states and Washington, DC, according to The Appeal, a nonprofit news organization. Griffin, who started trading in his Harvard dormitory, spoke at the Managed Funds Association conference in Miami in January about America’s elite universities and criticized the education at the universities blaming the "DEI (diversity, equity and inclusion) agenda." Harvard has been beset by controversy over campus anti-Israel activism since the outbreak of the Israel-Hamas ![]() war. In February, a congressional committee issued subpoenas to Harvard administrators as part of a broader investigation into antisemitism at the university. Two weeks earlier, the Department of Education opened an investigation into the university’s treatment of pro-Paleostinian students targeted by pro-Israel harassment. In January, Claudine Gay, Harvard’s president, resigned under pressure following plagiarism allegations and a congressional hearing in which she dithered on whether calling for the genocide of Jews violated campus policy. Several detained at MIT for blocking parking garage in anti-Israel protest |
2024-05-10 |
[IsraelTimes] Demonstrators call for prestigious Massachusetts university to ’cut ties to a state that is currently enacting a genocide,’ as encampment protests continue at numerous US campuses Police detained several people Thursday at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology after demonstrators blocked a parking garage in their ongoing protest movement against Israel amid the war in Gazoo ...Hellhole adjunct to Israel and Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, inhabited by Gazooks. The place was acquired in the wake of the 1967 War and then presented to Paleostinian control in 2006 by Ariel Sharon, who had entered his dotage. It is currently ruled with an iron fist by Hamas with about the living conditions you'd expect. It periodically attacks the Hated Zionist Entity whenever Iran needs a ruckus created or the hard boyz get bored, getting thumped by the IDF in return. The ruling turbans then wave the bloody shirt and holler loudly about oppressionand disproportionate response... against Hamas ![]() Tensions have ratcheted up in standoffs with protesters on campuses across the United States and increasingly in Europe. Some colleges cracked down immediately, while others have tolerated the demonstrations, which have included instances of antisemitism and harassment of Jewish students. Some have begun to lose patience and call in the police over concerns about disruptions to campus life and safety. In Boston, the US city most identified with higher education, students have set up encampments on at least five campuses, including MIT, Northeastern University and Harvard University. At MIT, protesters have been asking administrators to end all research contracts with Israel’s Defense Ministry, which they estimate total $11 million since 2015. On Thursday, the school issued an alert just before 2 p.m. saying protesters were blocking the entrance to a campus parking garage and spilling onto a nearby street. About two hours later, authorities split protesters up and pushed them away from the garage. At least three people were detained. Protesters walked away continuing to chant "Free Paleostine." The crowd dispersed, and the garage was reopened by 5 p.m., the school said. MIT officials said later Thursday that fewer than 10 people were arrested by MIT police during the incident and the Stata Garage and Vassar Street are now open. Cambridge Police were also on hand to help clear the garage entrance, officials said. Hannah Didehbani, an MIT student and one of the leaders of the protest, said the decision to block the garage was part of a larger effort to bring attention to what she described as MIT’s complicity with the Israeli military, which has been fighting against Hamas in Gaza since the terror group’s October 7 onslaught that started the war. Didehbani said she had been issued a suspension and an eviction notice by the school but said MIT cannot suspend the larger student movement. "They’d much rather do those things than cut ties to a state that is currently enacting a genocide," she said. The anti-Israel campus protests began nearly three weeks ago at Columbia University in New York City. It has since swept college campuses nationwide, with more than 2,500 people arrested. 'Sheila Jackson Lee Named Head Of Harvard Astronomy Department |
2024-04-11 |
[BEE] CAMBRIDGE, MA — In the wake of claiming the moon is made of gas and the sun is "almost" too hot to get close to, Texas Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee has been named the new head of Harvard University's Astronomy Department. The Board of Overseers at the prestigious Ivy League institution was reportedly wowed by Jackson Lee's insights into the cosmos, with the school immediately seeking to get in touch with her about the department head position. "Her knowledge blew us away," said Harvard Interim President Alan Garber. "When she said, 'The moon is made up of mostly gasses. That's why the question is why or how could we humans live on the moon' -- that's when we knew she was Harvard material." While some have raised questions about Jackson Lee's qualifications to lead the school's Astronomy Department after her comments about the moon being comprised of gases, the board was willing to overlook any criticism. "It's not about qualifications here at Harvard," Garber said. "She hasn't been qualified to serve in Congress all these years, but she's done it. That says a lot about her ability to overcome adversity and general misunderstandings about basic elements. She literally watched a flag be planted on the moon, thinking it's being planted in gas - and yet, she got elected to Congress. What a leader!" Jackson Lee's office said she would join the school's faculty within a few weeks and that due to normal legislative inaction, it would not interfere with her ability to continue serving in Congress. At publishing time, Jackson Lee was planning her first lecture to educate students about the fact that asteroids are made of chocolate. |

The Moon 'Is Made Up Mostly of Gases,' Sheila Jackson Lee Tells Students |
2024-04-10 |
![]() While Democrats and leftist alarmists decry conservatives for supposedly peddling "misinformation" about "the Science™" related to climate, COVID, and genders (there are two, FYI), their own Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee of Texas is out and about telling constituents some real whoppers about the solar eclipse. Speaking on Monday at an event she claims to have "created" at Booker T. Washington High School in her Houston-area district, she tried to provide some scientific explanation for the solar system's workings — but any students who listened are going to fail Astronomy 101. "You have the energy of the moon at night," Jackson Lee tried explaining to attendees, seeming to misunderstand that the moon doesn't release energy at night, it is merely reflecting light from the sun. "And sometimes you've heard the word 'full moon,'" she continued. "Sometimes you need to take the opportunity just to come out and see a full moon," which the graduate of Yale explained is a "complete rounded circle which is made up mostly of gases." Huh? The moon is, well, solid. That's why astronauts can...land on it. There is a notable lack of gases on the moon, hence the need for space suits for the Apollo astronauts to not immediately die outside of their lunar landers. Undeterred, Jackson Lee continued, saying "that's why the question is why — or how — could we as humans live on the moon. The gas is such that we can do that," the representative who previously served on the House's Science Committee and Space and Aeronautics Committee claimed. According to NASA, the moon's "weak atmosphere and its lack of liquid water cannot support life as we know it," but seemingly not as Jackson Lee knows it. |

Democrat John Whitmire elected Houston mayor, defeating congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee |
2023-12-10 |
![]() Whitmire, 74, who is one of Texas’ most powerful Democratic legislators, will now be at the helm of America’s fourth-largest city. His campaign focused on reducing crime, improving streets and bringing people together. He heavily outspent Jackson Lee, who was running to become Houston’s first Black female mayor. without ethics or intellect The congresswoman’s campaign also had to deal with fallout from the release in October of an unverified audio recording that purported to capture her profanely berating staff. Whitmire built an insurmountable lead among early voters, winning among those voters by 30 percentage points. Standing before a ballroom full of cheering supporters in the city's convention center, Whitmire said he was fired up and ready to go to work as mayor.
