Taliban Official Assassinated in Northern Afghanistan |
2022-10-10 |
[KhaamaPress] The Taliban![]() students... Head of Economy for the northern Afghan province of Faryab, Abdul Rahman Munawar, was assassinated by unknown gunnies, local sources said. According to local sources, unknown gunnies assassinated the Taliban official, Abdul Rahman Munawar, on Saturday, October 8, when he was on his way to his house. The Taliban Head of Information and Culture for Faryab province, Shamsullah Mohammad, confirmed the veracity of the liquidation and said that the incident took place in a village in the Qaisar district of Faryab. "Abdul Rahman Munawar, the head of economic affairs of the Taliban in this province, was killed by unknown gunnies while he was on his way home," Mohammadi told the media. The Taliban information and culture official added that while the liquidation’s perpetrators were successful in escaping the scene, Taliban forces are still looking for them and that an investigation is ongoing. The Taliban forces are actively looking for the two unidentified gunnies who killed Abdul Rahman Munawar. Security officials for the Taliban have stated that they do not yet understand the motivation behind the murder and that no individual, group, or organization has grabbed credit as of yet. This follows the Taliban’s assertions that they have established and upheld security in Afghanistan. However, some people are alive only because it's illegal to kill them... since the group seized power last year, the crime rate has increased, and even Taliban officials are not immune from becoming a victim. |

2017-03-13 |
[Tolo News] Two big bases of Afghan National Army (ANA) in Baghlan-e-Markazi district have been under Taliban siege for nearly one month, but still no force has come to help the surrounded soldiers, a member of the Baghlan Provincial Council said on Sunday. Council members say the Taliban have besieged the bases for three weeks. ANA operations could not break the siege and the soldiers inside the bases are suffering difficult days and nights. "Mangalha and Alavuddin military bases have been surrounded by Taliban for one month. Taliban have warned the people living in the villages near to the bases to evacuate the area. According to our contact with the ANA soldiers, they are in a very difficult situation," said Mohammad Zarif Zarif, member of the council. Villagers say the Taliban have closed all the roads and their houses have been destroyed in fights between Taliban and security forces. "There has been three weeks of ongoing war in our village. All the houses have been destroyed, animals have died inside stables and people cannot work on the fields. Security forces cannot advance even one step," said Arbab Shamsullah, tribal elder. "Taliban have closed all the roads. They even do not let us to bring food inside the village, because they say that we take the food to the soldiers. People are facing numerous challenges," said Haji Abdul Hamid, resident of Baghlan-e-Markazi district. Residents of Baghlan province urged government to put an end to the current fighting. "We urge the government to finish the war in our region. They should defeat Taliban if they can, otherwise, the security forces should remove their bases from our region. People have lost what they had," said Taza Mir, resident of Mangal village of Baghlan-e-Markazi district. TOLOnews tried to get Baghlan local government comment in this regard, but failed to do so. |

Residents Say Kunduz City Still 'Insecure' |
2015-12-16 |
Almost three months after the collapse of Kunduz city to the Taliban, and the subsequent clearing operation, residents say insurgents are still active in some parts of the city. This ongoing conflict and insecurity has residents worried. So much so, many have chosen not to rebuild their damaged homes. One resident, Ahmad Jawed said: "The government does not want to clear the city completely [of insurgents]. If government wanted to they could but they do not want to. During the day government is out but at night it's the Taliban and now people do not trust [the situation] and people do not want to invest in Kunduz city." Shamsullah, another resident said: "People are not sure about the security in the bazaar and they do not want to invest. Most of the investors have left the city - even the banks are closed and not accepting electricity bills - and people are worried the city might collapse again." A number of shopkeepers in the city said meanwhile that after the collapse of the city to the Taliban investors are no longer interested in doing business there. "In the city area, Taliban still exist and people are investing less after its collapse. People are leaving and there are no jobs in Kunduz," said Mirza Mohammad a city shopkeeper. "After the collapse of Kunduz people are not investing in the city because they think the city will collapse again. Just one kilometer out of Kunduz city is where the Taliban is. There are no jobs and offices are closed," said Mohammad Haron another shopkeeper. Meanwhile Kunduz's acting-governor said that it is the people's right to worry about the situation but if government plans are implemented properly the security situation will improve. "Yet adverse effects of war exist and the recapture of Kunduz city was not easy and as long as people do not relive [the situation] mentally and emotionally and as long we do not provide security to the city again people cannot live with it. We assure the people that with the implementation of government plans the situation will improve," said Hamidullah Danishi Kunduz acting-governor. Meanwhile, Kunduz police said that residents should not worry. "We call upon all our people and businessmen to assess the situation. All routes are open and they can start work. We invite them to tell us about their problems so we can solve them," said Shir Aziz Kamawal the Afghan National Army commander for Zone 808 Spinzar. Click link for a video report |

Eight Prisoners on Death Row Hanged on Tuesday |
2012-11-21 |
![]() Maybe I'll join the TalibanKarzai ... A former Baltimore restaurateur, now 12th and current President of Afghanistan, displacing the legitimate president Rabbani in December 2004. He was installed as the dominant political figure after the removal of the Taliban regime in late 2001 in a vain attempt to put a Pashtunface on the successor state to the Taliban. After the 2004 presidential election, he was declared president regardless of what the actual vote count was. He won a second, even more dubious, five-year-term after the 2009 presidential election. His grip on reality has been slipping steadily since around 2007, probably from heavy drug use... recently approved 16 people to receive the death penalty for their crimes, according to a source close to the Attorney General's office. Head of the Presidential Justice Board on Tuesday said the 16 people were found guilty of crimes including rape, murder, kidnapping, and betraying national security. Nasrullah Stanikzai said that among those to receive the death penalty is a man who choked a child to death using a shoelace after he had raped the child and a father who killed his children. "According to the decision of all courts -- (primary court, appeal court, and the high court) -- of Afghanistan, 16 men were sentenced to the highest punishment or execution. According to the president's order, the execution will be enforced," Stanikzai said. Stanikzai said the Justice Board had reviewed each case individually and the approval was issued with caution. "Besides all the courts that issued the sentence, the responsible commission at the government level has reviewed the matter as well. After comprehensive and complete information received by the president and by the justice board of the president's office at the end [it was approved]," he said. A source close to the Attorney General's office, who declined to be named, told TOLOnews eight people have already been executed. Afghanistan Independent Human Rights Commission (AIHRC) supported the move saying the death penalty serves as an effective way to deter potential criminals in the future. "Enforcing fair punishment in a society has a corrective aspect and has a positive effect in reducing crime," said AIHRC regional director for central Afghanistan Shamsullah Ahmadzai. However, some men learn by reading. A few learn by observation. The rest have to pee on the electric fence for themselves... there are some concerns that the sentence will not be carried out because of corruption in the justice bodies. The well-known escape of Taimoor Shah, sentenced to death earlier this year for kidnapping Italian journalist Clementina Cantoni among other crimes, has raised much criticism against the prison system. His disappearance from top security Pul-e Charkhi prison on the night before his execution led many to question the ability of the judicial organs to protect Afghans. It is said that more than 200 prisoners out of 2,000 at Pul-e Charkhi prison are awaiting their death sentence, based on pronouncements from the Attorney General. |

Govt Has Failed to Bring Human Rights Violators to Justice: AIHRC
2011-01-02 | |
[Tolo News] Afghan government failed to bring human rights ... which are not the same thing as individual rights, mind you... violators to justice, Afghanistan Independent Human Rights Commission said on Saturday.
After the formation of coordination council, civil wars intensified in the capital Kabul in which thousands of people bit the dust and many others were maimed. Gulbuddin Hekmatyar's ... who used to be known as The Most Evil Man in the Worldbut who now seems merely run-of-the-mill evil... Hezb-e- Islami, General Abdul Rashid Dostum's Junbish, and Abdul Ali Mazari's Wahdat party were members of the council. Today the former involved sides in the fightings in Kabul make paradoxical comments. "I think and I believe that all those who stood against the legitimate Islamic government should be accountable for all devastations and fightings," Waqef Hakimi, the front man for Jamiat-e-Islami party, said. "One and half years after Mujaheddin government was made, fightings erupted and some specific groups had taken part in it, so we can put the blame for all killings on the coordination council," said a member of Wahdat-e-Islami's political committee. But AIHCR urged the Afghan government to sue those involved in the fightings in Kabul. "Government hasn't acted on its commitments to apply justice on involved sides in the war," Shamsullah Ahmadzai, Head of AIHRC regional office, told TOLOnews. The war in Kabul lasted for one year and it claimed lives of around 50,000 civilians and 70 percent of Kabul city was turned into ruins, said AIHRC.
